In the world of robotics, there is always something new on the horizon, but this time Mitsubishi Electric has really caught the eye. His robot, TOKUFASTbot, which can be found on a normal day carefully wiring motors, has just come into the spotlight for a completely different reason.
The Rubik’s cube has been taken and not only played with. He has set a new world record.
It’s not just about being fast; it’s about redefining what we think robots can do. It is precision and technology united in a frankly amazing way. And everything happened very quickly. If you blinked, you probably missed it.
The puzzle phenomenon revisited
So, the Rubik’s cube. We all know that, right? That colorful little cube that’s been twisting our brains since the ’80s. In the early 2000s, it was back in the spotlight, captivating a whole new generation. It’s not just about making each side match; It’s about the journey there. It takes logic, patience and some nimble fingers to play.
WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?
And let’s not forget “speedcubing”. It’s like the Olympics of puzzle solving, where every little tick of the clock can set or break a world record. It is this emotion that keeps the cube spinning in everyone’s hands.
CHINA PRESENTS ITS FIRST FULL-SIZE ELECTRIC HUMANOID ROBOT
A broken record
The human record for solving the Rubik’s cube, an impressive 3.13 seconds, was set by Max Park in 2023. However, TOKUFASTbot by Mitsubishi Electric has left human competitors behind, solving the cube in just 0.305 seconds. This achievement not only breaks the previous record set by an MIT robot in 2018, but it does so in less time than it takes a human to blink.

The technology behind the triumph
The TOKUFASTbot owes its success to a rotation mechanism capable of performing a 90-degree turn in just 0.9 milliseconds. This incredible speed is made possible by Mitsubishi Electric’s signal-sensitive servo motors and a state-of-the-art color recognition artificial intelligence algorithm. The result is a robot that can evaluate, plan and execute the puzzle solution faster than we can see.

More than just a record breaker
While setting up a new Guinness World Record To make the “fastest robot to solve a rotating puzzle cube” a notable achievement, the TOKUFASTbot is not just a one-trick pony. Its design is not for show but for function. As Yuji Yoshimura, senior general manager of Mitsubishi Electric’s Component Production Engineering Center, points out, the robot’s main function is to improve the manufacturing of motors for everyday appliances.

Kurt’s Key Takeaways
You know, this whole record-breaking thing isn’t just about a robot solving a puzzle super fast. It’s really shedding light on how far we’ve come with robots and AI. Looking ahead, what they are doing today will really change the game in ways we are just beginning to see. And although TOKUFASTbot doesn’t win any beauty contests, it’s pretty impressive for those who love technology like me.
