President-elect Trump announced Saturday that he had tapped “The Apprentice” creator to serve in a diplomatic role in the United Kingdom.
In a Truth Social post, Trump named Mark Burnett, a London-born British-American television producer, as the next US special envoy to the United Kingdom.
“It is a great honor for me to appoint Mark Burnett as special envoy to the United Kingdom,” said the president-elect. “With a distinguished career in television production and business, Mark brings a unique combination of diplomatic acumen and international recognition to this important role.”
In addition to creating Trump’s former show “The Apprentice,” Burnett also created “Shark Tank” and directed production on other shows such as “Survivor” and “The Martha Stewart Show.” In his Truth Social post, Trump said the producer had created some of the “most important shows in the history of television” and touted his accomplishments.

Currently, no one serves as a US special envoy to the UK. Special envoy roles are typically temporary in nature and intended to fulfill a specific mission, although Trump did not specify the purpose of the role in his announcement.
