President Biden offered his response to former President Trump’s statement on abortion on Monday, claiming that Trump was “simply lying” about ending Roe v. Wade and that Trump would sign a national abortion ban into law if he had the chance.
Trump released a video statement Monday morning expressing support for states deciding for themselves how to handle the abortion issue, suggesting he does not support a federal ban. Biden argued that Trump was all talk in his statement on Monday.
“For all his empty talk about fertility treatments, Trump doesn’t tell you that the MAGA Republicans he controls in Congress have introduced bills that could ban fertility treatments and that the House speaker he authorized is one of the nation’s strongest supporters of a national abortion ban,” Biden wrote.
“Let’s not get our hopes up. If Donald Trump is elected and MAGA Republicans in Congress put a national abortion ban on the Resolute Desk, Trump will sign it into law,” he added.

Biden and Democrats have used abortion issues as a cudgel against Republicans in multiple elections following the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health 2022. Biden says Trump’s statement is simply an attempt to deflect the attack.
“Trump is fighting back. He’s worried that since he’s responsible for overturning Roe, voters will hold him accountable in 2024. Well, I’ve got news for Donald. They will. America was built on personal freedom. So, there’s “There is nothing more un-American than having our personal freedoms taken away. And that’s what Donald Trump has done,” Biden wrote.

In Trump’s statement on Monday, he explicitly affirmed his support for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and emphasized his support for states determining their own abortion laws as long as there are exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother.
“The states will determine it by voting, legislation, or perhaps both, and what they decide should be the law of the land, in this case, the law of the state,” Trump said. “Many states will be different. Many states will have a different number of weeks…at the end of the day, it all depends on the will of the people.”
KEY STATE PROVIDES IMPORTANT RESOLUTION ON ABORTION
Trump reiterated that he was proud of the role he played in overturning Roe v. Wade and said that jurists on “both sides” had been in favor of the measure.
“The Republican Party must always stand on the side of the miracle of life and on the side of mothers, fathers and their beautiful babies. IVF is an important part of that,” Trump said.
In the wake of the Supreme Court’s action, Republican-dominated states have implemented a new wave of abortion restrictions, such as Florida’s six-week ban, which will be on the state ballot in November. Democratic states, meanwhile, have expanded abortion rights and often opened their doors to out-of-state residents.
