The end of the election season does not mean the end of political betting, as many platforms allow users to place bets on everything from the 2028 election to who will be confirmed in President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet.
“Some people will be surprised by this, but people are already betting on 2026 and 2028,” Maxim Lott, founder of ElectionBettingOdds.com, told Fox News Digital. “About a quarter of a million dollars has already been wagered.”
The comments come after the 2024 election produced a lot of betting, with users across multiple platforms betting more than $2 billion on the outcome of the latest contest.
WHAT ARE THE BETTING ODDS ON ELECTIONS? EXPERT EXPLAINS WHY TRUMP IS CURRENTLY FAVORITE
While mega sporting events, such as the Super Bowl and the recent fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, offer gamblers plenty to bet on after the election, those looking for something political to bet on will still have plenty of options.
One of the most popular topics is who will be the nominees of the two major parties in 2028, and ElectionBettingOdds.com shows that California Governor Gavin Newsom and Vice President-elect JD Vance are the current leaders of the Democrats and Republicans , respectively.
Other names getting a lot of attention from A-listers include Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for the Democratic nomination, while Vance is followed by names like businessman and future head of the new Department of Government Efficiency, Vivek Ramaswamy and Donald Trump. Jr. on the Republican side.
“The big Democratic governors are the favorites to be the next candidate,” Lott said, noting that Vance currently has a considerable lead over other options on the Republican side.

Vance is also the current leader in betting on who will win the 2028 presidential election, ElectionBettingOdds.com shows, followed by Newson and Shapiro as the next two likely choices.
However, Lott cautioned that it is still too early to say what the future holds, noting that markets will begin to provide more clarity as more information becomes known in the coming years.
“As the future becomes clearer… as we get closer to 2026, 2028, these probabilities will change,” Lott said. “So if the Trump administration is doing really well, the economy is booming, inflation is not out of control, wars are ending, Vance’s odds will certainly increase.”
Bettors aren’t limited to betting on elections either, with platforms like Polymarket allowing users to place bets on Trump’s picks to serve in his cabinet and whether they will be confirmed. Bettors can also place bets on questions such as whether they believe the war in Ukraine will end in Trump’s first 90 days or whether there will be a ceasefire in Gaza in 2024.

According to Lott, taking a look at the current betting odds for many scenarios can help you inform yourself about what’s happening in the world, even if you don’t place bets.
“People often ask…if this has any value…it’s just a game of chance. It’s silly,” Lott said. “But it’s actually very useful… if you want to know what’s going to happen in 2028 or if the Trump administration is going to be a success, you can read 100 news articles about it. Some will misinform you. Or you can just go “Go to prediction markets and see… Does Vance have a 20% chance of becoming the next Republican nominee or does he have a 90% chance? “That says a lot.”
